Namaste from Sole Encounters Foundation.
Sole Encounters Foundation works to create brighter futures for children, families and local communities across Nepal through education, child health, safety, youth support, women’s empowerment, responsible volunteering and practical community assistance. Our work grew from the wider vision of Sole Encounters Adventures, a Kathmandu-based trekking, tour and adventure company established in 2018 by experienced local tourism professionals.
From the beginning, our aim has been bigger than organising treks, tours and expeditions. We want responsible tourism to create opportunities for local people while helping us support communities beyond the trekking trails.
Our team visits communities, communicates with schools, families, young people and local representatives, and tries to understand what support is genuinely needed before developing a programme.
Travellers, volunteers, donors and responsible partners can also become part of this journey. Through eligible paid trips, volunteering opportunities and community partnerships, we hope to connect meaningful travel with meaningful action.
Child Health. Education. Safety. Unity. Brighter Futures.
Our Mission
Our mission is to support children and communities in Nepal through practical programmes based on genuine local needs. We focus on education, health, safety, youth development, women’s empowerment and community wellbeing. Rather than making promises we cannot fulfil, we aim to listen first, start responsibly, complete projects carefully and continue building long-term relationships with the communities we serve.
Our Vision
Our vision is to help build communities where children can learn, young people can see greater opportunities, women can strengthen their independence and families can access practical support. We believe sustainable change takes time. By combining local knowledge, responsible tourism, partnerships and community participation, we hope small projects can gradually grow into stronger opportunities and brighter futures across Nepal.
Supporting Education in Nepal
Education remains one of our strongest priorities. Our support may include school bags, books, notebooks, stationery, uniforms, learning materials and other educational necessities identified by schools and communities. We want children to have the basic resources they need to learn confidently. Even a small contribution can become meaningful when it reaches the right student at the right time.
Child Health and Wellbeing
Healthy children have a stronger opportunity to attend school, learn and develop confidence. Our Foundation aims to support child health, hygiene awareness, safety and community wellbeing. Future health initiatives will be developed with qualified professionals and appropriate partners. Our goal is to ensure health-related programmes are responsible, useful and based on genuine needs identified within local communities.
Youth Support and Counselling
Young people are an important part of Nepal’s future. Through youth-focused activities and counselling, we hope to support education, confidence, wellbeing and future opportunities. Ekta Bhandari, Programs Director and Youth Counsellor, works with schools, families and young people to understand local priorities and help identify programmes that can provide practical support and encouragement for the next generation.
Women’s Empowerment
Women’s empowerment is an important part of our long-term vision. We hope to support programmes connected with education, literacy, skills development, vocational training and greater economic independence. We believe women should help shape the programmes intended for them. Stronger opportunities for women can positively influence families, children and entire communities, creating benefits that extend well beyond one individual.
Supporting Communities After Disasters
Nepal is vulnerable to earthquakes, floods, landslides and other natural hazards. Our team has supported people facing difficult circumstances and hopes to continue helping where our resources allow. Assistance may include clothing, hygiene materials, educational supplies or other practical necessities. We cannot replace emergency agencies, but we can contribute responsibly where local needs and our available support come together.
Responsible Volunteering in Nepal
We welcome people who want to contribute useful time, knowledge and skills through responsible volunteering in Nepal. Opportunities may include education, youth activities, environmental work, community programmes or professional skills sharing. Volunteering should always benefit communities first. We therefore aim to connect volunteers only with activities that respond to genuine local needs and are planned responsibly.
Travel With Us and Support Communities
Travellers can become part of our mission through Sole Encounters Adventures. A percentage from eligible paid journeys is separated to support Sole Encounters Foundation activities. Guests joining Everest Base Camp, Manaslu Circuit, Annapurna Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit, Langtang Valley, peak climbing adventures or cultural tours can therefore help us connect responsible travel with wider community support.
Community Experiences Before or After Your Trek
Some travellers want to experience Nepal beyond the trekking trail. When suitable programmes are available, we can explore community activities before or after a trek. These may include school visits, educational support, volunteering or helping provide useful materials. Every experience depends on genuine community needs, active Foundation programmes, available time and appropriate arrangements with the people involved.
Responsible Tourism in Nepal
Responsible tourism begins with how a journey is organised. Travelling with a local company supports guides, porters, drivers, lodges and other services throughout Nepal. Through Sole Encounters Foundation, we also want tourism to support education, health and community programmes. Our goal is to connect unforgettable travel experiences with practical benefits that can continue after a traveller returns home.
Our Team
Sole Encounters Foundation is guided by a local team with different responsibilities. Prashant Nepal, Chairman, manages official matters, relationships and guest communication. Prem B. Tamang, Board Member and Founder of Sole Encounters Adventures, brings extensive outdoor and field experience. Ekta Bhandari, Programs Director and Youth Counsellor, focuses on community needs, programme development and youth engagement.
Working With Communities
We believe communities should be involved in decisions about the support they receive. Before starting a project, our team aims to speak with schools, families, young people and local representatives. This helps us understand genuine priorities and avoid providing unnecessary materials or programmes. Listening first allows us to design support that is more respectful, useful and connected to real community needs.
Partnerships and Supporters
We welcome responsible partnerships with schools, businesses, healthcare professionals, charities, NGOs, volunteers, donors and community organisations. Support does not always need to be financial. Professional knowledge, educational resources, health expertise, training, equipment, volunteering and international awareness can all strengthen a programme. We want partnerships based on transparency, respect, cooperation and shared community goals.
Small Contributions Can Matter
A contribution does not need to be large to create value. One school bag can help one student. Learning materials can support a classroom. Warm clothing can help a family through winter. Professional knowledge can strengthen an entire programme. When travellers, volunteers, donors and partners contribute together, small acts of support can become something much bigger for a community.
Our Work Continues
Our community work is not limited to one project or one location. We want to continue supporting education, health, youth, women, environmental responsibility and communities facing difficult circumstances across Nepal. We will keep learning, improving and developing programmes carefully. Our goal is to complete what we begin and build trust with communities through consistent, responsible and transparent action.
Help Us Build Brighter Futures
We cannot achieve our vision alone. You can help by travelling with Sole Encounters Adventures, supporting a Foundation project, volunteering appropriate skills, contributing useful supplies, becoming a partner or sharing our work with others. Every genuine contribution can help us move another step forward and create stronger opportunities for children, families and communities throughout Nepal.
Nothing Is Impossible
Every dream begins with a first step. Our journey began with tourism, local experience and a desire to give something back to Nepal. Today, that dream continues through Sole Encounters Foundation. We will keep listening, learning and working with communities.
Nothing is impossible. Dream, try, work together and help make those dreams come true.
Namaste, and thank you for supporting communities in Nepal.
